Anybody have insight about balls SCHSL is providing for playoffs? They seem to be a little less lively, softer cover. Wondering why we would use different ball for playoffs than we have been using for regular season.

The South Carolina High School League got some kind of deal with Rawlings. So the agreement was that they would make all sports teams use Rawlings balls for all playoff games. Worth is owned by Rawlings so that is being used in the softball playoffs. Miss the Dudley ball.

Except football?

Basketball, baseball and softball are required to use them for playoffs only. Most coaches do not like them. The balls are slicker, steams are not as raised, ball does not seem "to high off bat" like a Wilson or Dudley. Not enough AD's complained about the ball to force the HSL to change. Now that the balls are being used more complaints are being made. Many basketball coaches complained about the slickest too.

Bottom line is HSL is getting something out of a contract with Rawlings while the high schools get nothing and are forced to buy a crappy ball.

Volleyball had to use a Rawlings ball as well. Not near the quality of the two brands that most schools use.

Every game we played in the softball playoffs I asked the other coach how he/she felt about the Worth ball. Everyone of them said that it was a terrible ball. It felt dead out of the wrapper.
