Chapin High School Eagles have gotten underway with a somewhat limited Spring Football agenda. There are a LOT of 2 and 3-sport athletes at CHS so the football team is missing many key ingredients for Spring. Nearly 10 players are on the Baseball team that in the District finals, 3 or 4 Soccer players on the soccer team and with tennis and golf winning and advancing, the Eagles are not a complete squad right now. I can testify that the Strength & Condition aspect of CHS has never seen the numbers they are putting up. In years past, having a 300 lb bencher or 400 lb squater at Chapin was an abnormality. Next season they could have 10 or more posting these numbers. Bailey (QB) and Garret Reinhart (LB) both benched around 300 and squating over 400. DL Harrison Bedenbaugh became Chapin's 1st 1,000 lb Club Member in recent history with his bench, power clean and squat - and he's just a Sophomore this year.

What they do have out at Spring Practice right now is the Region Offensive Player of the Year QB Logan Bailey who looks lightyears better this Spring than he did last Spring with his throws, TE D-I recruit Will Register sucking up balls all over the field, and LB Garret Reinhart (picked by JB as "One To Watch") shining at the Mike LB position.

Offensively, the Eagles are set at QB with Bailey and future star Trad Beatty as his back-up. RB is a mystery with the graduation of Chandler Engle. Ben Flowers is taking reps there, as is Reinhart. Some transfers should make that spot interesting in the fall. WR should be a strength for the team with the top WR (Evan Estridge) returning and the addition of speedster Joe Flowers at slot. Along with TE/H-Back Register - and newcomer Khale Rhames - the Eagles could have 3 or more 6'3"+ WRs on the field at one time. All with great hands and above average speed. Some very intersting looking new faces along the OL with legitimate size, but little varsity experience. How fast they bond together could determine if this offense can average 30 pts a game again this season.

Defensively, the Eagles look very solid at inside LB(see Reinhart above), but - like the OL - have new faces up front on the DL. Look for Bedenbaugh, Brennan Ziegler and Trey Greene to be names that get mentioned a lot. The DBs and OLBs lost several of the leading tacklers from last year, but have terrific talent coming down the pipeline. They return LB Cory Bianco, DB Caleb White and DB Nick Price - who started last year as a Freshman for the Eagles. Don't be surprised to see Bailey on Defense some next season, as well. He's been working out with them already in Spring ball.

Like everyone else, it's a bit difficult to judge or give a lot of good reports when everyone is just running around in helmets against air. Next week - when the pads come out - will be a better indicator of what to look forward to in the Fall from the Eagles.

Oh... and there has been a parade of colleges coming through looking at next year's Senior class, and - of course - Will Register. Wingate, PC, Clemson, Wofford, Citadel, Furman, UNCC, and several others have been in to see the coaches, kids and/or practice.

Will Register got his first D-I offer from UNC-C yesterday! The sky is the limit for this kid as long as he keeps working as hard as he has these past two years! Fully expect more and more offers to flow his way. Both Clemson and Carolina STAY in touch with him continually... just waiting on the offers to fall.
