No, I am not currently coaching anywhere, but I am a big proponent of freetyle. I think it's a way to keep interest during the off-season and can raise awareness about SC wrestlers if we have some kids who do well at Fargo (think Wigger & Dudley). I saw the teams you had committed and thought that was enough to have a decent little round robin tournament.

Personally I think that the SC chapter of USA Wrestling needs to do a MUCH MUCH MUCH better job promoting itself in this state to get more kids active.

I am not sure what the communication break down was this year, but that's what can make or break any event.

1. I misunderstood that one team on the list hadn't committed. (one of the coaches said yes, without confirming with team leaders)

2. 1 of the teams on the list, flat out backed out

3. 2 of the teams on the list would not send me ANY solid numbers.

4. There was NO way of knowing how many individuals were coming, that we could put on a house team.

5. One team wanted in on Wednesday but only had Jr & Cadets

SO with all that and a few facilty / mat issues (again, lack of communcation)

I too love FS / GR in the off season and with the out of state interest I received, this tournament could grow into a really nice event. But people really need to learn how to communicate better, including me apparently.
