Spartanburg Methodist College (55-9) battled and dug deep to win a 3 game series against Shelton State, AL to gain entry into the 16 team bracket of the National Junior College World Series, soon held in Utah.

One of the grittiest performances by a softball team ever seen. Behind often, only to answer the call the next inning each and every time. Great hitting, and great pitching by a full cupboard of South Carolina players, and surrounding areas, at the Jr. College level. Possibly the best this SC State has ever seen.

This SMC Team matches up against any team in the nation. What brought us over the top is a stunning depth of great SC (& NC) players. While our opponents were trying to regroup from the onslaught, the great Pioneer Ladies were bringing in fresh troops. Emptied the kitchen sink in the final and super exciting 3rd game rubber match, for a hard earned 6-3 win.

It is a tribute to our State of South Carolina, for all throughout the far reaches of this great state, to produce and develop such a fine team of softball players. The state should be extremely proud of the fruits of their collective efforts.

We also must be very thankful to the great institution Spartanburg Methodist College, for expertly guiding these college players in every aspect of their college lives, so all of us watch and see them play another day at the highest national junior college level.
