Little League Pitcher Too Good?

Yeah, I saw that this morning. But, the situation is not as clear cut as the headline suggests.

There are far more issues with this story that do not pertain to this young man being "too good". LL says the young man is too old to pitch at this division. If the local league has allowed others to pitch out of their age group then LL in general needs to look at the league and whomever is in charge. The quote from the dad is that he is a good pitcher, but is 5 years behind in development with the remainder of his abilities. Personally I have never seen a 12 year old that pitches like this young man is reported to that is also at the skill level of a 7 year old. Sorry, can't buy that one. It sounds like dad and the young man might want to spend some time working on something other than pitching, like maybe hitting and fielding. The entire story sounds like another typical daddy ball situation where daddy wants the child to be the superstar of the team and get his way with everything.
What a waste of good news reporting.

Little league allows 11 and 12 year old to play in the minor (9 and 10 year old) division when their skills are not yet up to those at the majors (11 and 12 year old). This is only for regular season and can not be done for tournament play. Their rule book clearly stats that a 12 year old may not pitch in the minor division. The fact that the local league has been violating this rule all along does not make it legal. Little League does allow local leagues to adapt some of their rules to meet the local leagues rules with the approval from Little League. This is not one of those rules. This is a safety rule just like pitch count, bat regulations ext... You could imagine how many dads out there would pitch their ace 12 year old in a game against 9 and 10 year olds to get that all important winning season. Its pretty simple FOLLOW THE RULES and teach our kids to do the same. .
