The 2021 class in the state of South Carolina has already shaped up as one in which a large group of prospects are gaining Group of 5 and Power 5 scholarship offers.
Another that needs to be in that conversation is Lakewood's James Wright, a very intriguing rising senior athlete.
Wright sports excellent size at 6-foot-1 and already has a well-filled frame at 193 pounds. He looks like a physical presence on the field and shows that in his play. He was a "Swiss Army Knife" of sorts last season for the Gators, factoring in at wide receiver, safety, and at wildcat quarterback.
He's strong with the ball in his hands, whether he's finding lanes from the quarterback position or running deep routes from an outside receiver slot. To us, Wright is most intriguing at the safety position. His size and athleticism ratio, plus his willingness to be physical and ball skills, makes for a nice combination. Wright excels at playing "centerfield" and baiting quarterbacks into throws that he's able to break on to intercept or to lay a big hit on a receiver.
Wright has some long speed with an 11.1 in the 100 meters and a 23.6 in the 200 meters. He has a strong work ethic and we're also told he carries a 4.1 GPA. This is a prospect that college coaches would be wise to jump in on.
