AAAAA PLAYOFF RESULTS

Boiling Springs 6 ... Rock Hill 1

Sr. Pitcher Calli Richards struggles a bit in the 1st, as blue presents a near college strike zone. 2 walks, and a couple clean rips as RH gains a 1-0 lead.

Sr. Emma Williams gets BS out of the hole with a clean 2 RBI single in the 2nd. All athlete Richards up, thinking in her mind, so this his how the games is, Rips another RBI to make the team comfortable.

Soph Grace McKinney seals the deal with the best hit of the night, an absolute Rip Triple RBI.

The playoffs have begun. The 5A Blue is near college tight. Better be patient and bring your RBI bats.

Boiling Springs 8 ... Easley 1

Sr. P. Shelby Griffin takes the circle and delivers. This big beautiful Clydesdale brings the heat.

Sr. 2B Moriah Gomez makes probably the best defensive play seen yet. What looked like a bloop single straight down center, was naught, as Gomez running straight backwards, completely layed out on the backhand side, to grab a good one.

Griffin sets her own table with a rip double off the fence in the third. Sr. C Logan Webb finished the deal with a rip ground ball blister in the left gap, as part of her 2RBI performance.

Sr. Emma Williams finishes the game with a 2RBI torch down the left field line.

Fort mill was #1 underachiever in SC.
Mind boggling they lost 9. I feel for the girls who are frustrated

And then there were 8:

Mann
Byrnes
Boiling Springs
Clover

Ashley Ridge
Wando
Conway
White Knoll

Any predictions for this round? The competition always gets much tighter at this point in the playoffs. Any surprises with these 8? Anything to watch for? Who do you think wins upper state and who wins lower state?

Boiling Springs 1 ... Clover 0

Sr. Calli Richards hurls a 1 hitter in this defensive battle.

Soph. Grace McKinney gets game winning RBI and Run Scored with a home run in the 1st.

See you in Byrnes, SC, Monday night, barboleda.

A classic match up amongst local rival softball teams, both with the absolute highest respect for one another, to decide who takes the lead in Upstate 5A.

This game will be packed. As all the present and past players and parents will be sure to show. A can't miss local softball moment.

P. Kasey Widmyer dominates the field for Byrnes, showing why she is is all that, in a run away win against Boiling Springs, pitching a masterpiece 5-0 win.

It is not only how Byrnes played inside the the lines, but outside the lines matters too. A packed house of loud and proud Rebels, yet not once got near the boundaries. Absolute respect by Byrnes fans and a tip of my hat.

Byrnes gets a wake up call in the 6th, as Widmyer gets struck by a torpedo off the left drive upper leg. Brought out of the game, and we all sure hope in 4 days she gets back to what she was today.

BS goes back home again, against Clover I hear, to claw their way back.

Congrats Lady Rebels!

Appreciate the kind words but want to give credit to the right girl. Tatum was actually tonight's catcher. Kasey was on the mound.

Tonight you have Boiling Springs at Clover and winner will advance to Upper State Championship to face Byrnes and attempt to take 2 from Byrnes at Byrnes. Clover gets another chance with Boiling Springs again tonight at Clover in what should be a good game.

In the lower state tonight you have Ashley Ridge at Wando and winner will advance to Lower State Championship to face White Knoll and attempt to take 2 from White Knoll at White Knoll. Wando and Ashley Ridge have already faced one another 3 times this season, tonight being the 4th. Ashley Ridge has won all of their matchups with Wando but you never know what a 4th chance and a home field advantage can do.

Regardless of outcomes, some quality softball is promised tonight, Friday, and of course next week. We live in a great state for it; this season hasn't been disappointing in that aspect. After tonight, we will be down to the final four. Congrats to all who made it this far!

Any thoughts on any of the above games?

Boiling Springs 3 ... Clover 2

A 2 for 1 showdown ar Byrnes Friday night for the Upstate Championship.

Byrnes beats Boiling Springs in a blow out.

Congrats Lady Rebels, as you have proven to be the class of the Upstate field.

Congrats, also, to the Lady Bulldogs. As our town watched and embraced the wonderful show. To note, every single senior (5) is signed for the next level. Something you may understand better down the road, and be thankful.

Tonite belongs to the Byrnes Lady Rebels. Truly Spartanburg County's finest. With only graduating one senior, will be a force for years to come.

Good luck, Byrnes, in the SC State Championship series. You have earned it, a much better team, and gained another fan.

Coaching coaching coaching

Byrnes is there year in year out because the game played properly.

High School softball is about the young ladies. Ask the travel folks, as they know the ladies who are elevating all summer and fall.

It is not about throwing coaches under a bus. There are good high school coaches, and a few really great ones.

A few run HS programs much like a college programs. It gets results, yet most do not all the way. High School, and HS softball is all about placing softball players in the best intellectual and athletic positon to succeed economically in our society today. It is not about always winning games.

Ashely Ridge won their region. Made it to the top 8 teams in 5A. To feel the need, right now, to position a negative remark is out of line. The dynamic is way more complicated than that.

Look at Hillcrest, a great coach with not enough horses. Made it deep. As a softball team, keep making it to the top State 8, leaves little room for negative thought.

College softball is where the rubber meets the road. Watch, the local HS coaches, who coach at a college level, will be there soon.

Brandi is the best coach is SC. Period. Shea at Clover also excellent. Amazing what happens when schools make girls teams a priority like Byrnes. So many schools just hire anyone for softball with little research, which is pathetic. Kudos to Byrnes AD, he gets it.

Gary Adams at Crescent as good as they come. http://www.independentmail.com/stor...istory-while-chasing-another-crown/101042686/

I wont say who the best is because there is no way anyone knows all the instate coaches. Adams would be one of the top in state and nationwide. What he has done at Crecent is incredible. For sure his trophy case is larger than anyone else in SC. There was a pretty good stretch as a 2A school they consistently beat the top 4A (now 5A) upstate schools.
I 100% agree with your other comment that its pathetic what some AD's hire for softball coaches. Unfortunately its not just the high school level!

I am hard pressed to play the blame game.

Having experienced multiple success, in a wide variety of levels, it usually comes down to the lady players. If you are lucky enough to have your player surrounded by other great talented ladies, wins will follow.

A few schools have started HS 7th and 8th grade teams. Trying to develop talent in house. The local and super org. travel groups are a tremendous benefit. Lately though, the travel costs have gone sky high. Tourney costs, extensive travel far away. It can be quite difficult for a normal working family.

Maybe these younger HS teams are trying to pick up some of the slack.

Coaching matters a bunch. Better players usually trump at the end game. No disrespect to 2A, but it ain't 5A.

Our family success is directly correlated to the terrific ladies who we grew up with. The AD, the coach, the organization, all played an important role. They were role players, and thanked, but the ladies on the field determined the end result. They are the ones who make it happen.
