Class of 2013

Travis Black (SMC)- Clayton State

Spartanburg Methodist point guard Travis Black, a sophomore from Dublin, Ireland, and Spartanburg Christian, signed Tuesday with Clayton State.

Black helped lead SMC to a 35-1 record last season and No. 1 ranking. The Pioneers finished third in the NJCAA tournament in Hutchinson, Kan. As a sophomore, Black (6-foot-3, 175 pounds) averaged 8.0 points, 4.5 assists to only 1.7 turnovers, 1.9 steals and 3.3 rebounds while shooting 42 percent on 3-pointers.

At Clayton State, Black will play for first-year head coach Paul Harrison, who has been a Wofford assistant for the past six years. The Lakers compete in the Division II Peach Belt Conference.

Fred Mattison is heading south once again. The former high school
standout forward from Anderson, South Carolina, spent one season at Mott
and will finish his career in West Palm Beach, Florida, playing for
hall of fame head coach Rollie Massimino at Northwood University (NAIA).

Mattison led Mott to conference, state and district championships
this season. He was named MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Year
and was a member of the all-tournament team at the NJCAA Nationals in
Danville, Illinois in March.

he averaged 11 points a game last season, and pulled down 5.8 rebounds a
contest.

Wilkerson was a three-year starter for the Green Wave and led the
team to three consecutive Region 8-AAAA Championships. He received
all-region honors all three years and received All-State honors and
played in the North-South All Star Game as a senior.
During his
Green Wave career, Wilkerson averaged 18 points per game and 8 rebounds

Kelsey Terry, Westside High(SMC)- Augusta State

Spartanburg Methodist basketball player Kelsey Terry will join his former Pioneers teammate Travis Black next season at Clayton State.

Terry, from Westside High School in Anderson, was a key player off the bench last season for the Pioneers, averaging 7.1 points and 2.0 assists in helping the team go 35-1 for a No. 1 national ranking and a third-place finish in the NJCAA tournament in Hutchinson, Kan.

Clayton State, which competes in the NCAA Division II Peach Belt Conference, is coached by former Wofford assistant Paul Harrison, who spent the past six seasons with the Terriers. Black signed earlier this week with the Lakers.

Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach senior Kendall Henry signed a National
Letter of Intent on Wednesday to play his college basketball at
Anderson University.
Henry, who also helped the Saints reach the SCISA Class A state tennis
championship match, helped Christian Academy win four state basketball
titles during his impressive varsity career. The 6-foot-4 guard has
and can play every position on the floor, hopefully creating an early
opportunity for playing time for the Trojans.
In his senior season, Henry averaged a double-double with 21 points and
10 rebounds per game to lead the Saints to the state championship. He
was named the SCISA Class A Player of the Year.

Chris Schulman(Landrum)- Georgia Highlands Junior College

Landrum guard Chris Schulman signed with Georgia Highlands Junior College. He chose the school, located in Rome, Ga., over Spartanburg Methodist College and a pair of small schools in his home state of Florida.

"It's very small, and I can't get distracted," Schulman said. "I can do my work and stay focused on the sport, and it's not too far away from my family. Hopefully I can get recruited by a Division I school afterwards."

Landrum coach Lyn Smith feels Schulman will get another chance once his junior college eligibility expires.

"We're happy for him to have the opportunity to continue to play basketball," Smith said. "He'll get a free education while he's doing it. He was a great player for us this year. I only got to coach him one year unfortunately, but he had some good games for us, averaging 14 points a game. He'll have a chance to go on and find another school."

West Oak High School senior Blake Maness, on May 10th, signed his NLI with Erskine College. Maness was a 3 year starter for the warriors and 3 time all region 1 AAA selection. Maness, a 6'3" guard, averaged 18.5 ppg , 3.5 apg and 5 rpg this season. Maness leaves West-Oak as its all-time leading scorer and its single-game scoring record holder (39), while he also holds the record for the most three-point baskets made in a career. He also holds the single season assist record (142) and is second all time in career assist at West Oak.

And while all the records are great, Maness said the goal all along was to play at the next level. "I didn't know that I would, but I always wanted to play college basketball," Maness said. "Everyone always told me I had the ability, so I kept working and coaches kept pushing me and eventually it worked out and I have the opportunity to play college ball."

Travis Hammonds, RNE (2012), Gray Military Academy (2013) - Long Beach State

Richland Northeast High School 2012 graduate Travis Hammonds signed

Maybe this will work out best for McGowens and after his one year at Gray he will land an offer from a bigger school than High Point. I know Gray Military is happy to have him.

Andrews High School's Monte McCrea signed to play basketball for Limestone College on Friday afternoon.
As a senior, McCrea led the team in scoring, rebounds and blocks, and recorded 12 double-doubles.

His advice to his younger teammates on getting a scholarship: work hard and never let anything get in your way.

"You put in more work on the basketball court but grades are always a
major thing to accomplish too," McCrea said. "You can't go [anywhere] if
you don't have good grades."

Is McKelvey one of the guys who dropped out after last season and came back to school this season? How it this allowed?

Also, I believe that Anthony has qualified, not sure where he can land this late in the game.

McKelvey played like 10 games @ Marion HS this season got eligible at semester. Was told by several sources
that he was no longer in school not much after the basketball season was over for Marion. It's a shame!!!

As former Greenwood High School basketball player Terrance White Jr. signed his name on his letter of intent Thursday morning, only one thought went through his mind.
"Everything I've always dreamed of, playing in college, it's finally coming true," he said.
Signing that letter made official White's intent to play for the Greenville Sports Academy Titans in the fall.

It wasn't as quick or easy as some college courtships, but Donte Wright finally has a home.

The former Silver Bluff High School basketball star
recently started taking classes at South Carolina State, where he'll be a
member of the basketball team as a preferred walk-on. Ultimately, Wright's choice boiled down to joining either S.C. State or
Delaware State as a preferred walk-on. Those options made the choice
easy, as Wright opted to stay closer to home while also getting the
chance to play on the same team as his cousin Theron Stephens ? another
Silver Bluff alum.
