As the Mercer basketball program begins its final year with the 2014
class of seven seniors, head coach Bob Hoffman made the first steps in
reloading his roster with the signing of five recruits on Wednesday.
Stephon Jelks , Tyre Moore, Jestin Lewis, Niklas Ney, and Demetre
Rivers comprise the 2013 signing class as announced by Hoffman.
Moore is a six-foot four prospect out of Academic Magnet High School
in Charleston, South Carolina where he's averaged 21.8 points, 5.4
rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. This year, Moore was named a
2013-14 Preseason SCBCA Top-5 AA Senior Player after landing a Class AA
All-State selection as a junior. Moore was also named Class AA All-Region in each of the last two
years and finished last season as the leading scorer in the Low Country.
Rivers is set to join Mercer after his final year at Stratford High
School in Goose Creek, S.C. At Stratford, six-foot-seven Rivers
averaged 18.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and a block per game while shooting
48% from the field, 33% from three point range and 79% from the free
throw line.The 2013-14 Preseason SCBCA Top-5 AAAA Senior Player was picked up
Class AAAA South Carolina All-State honors last year a is a two-time
All-Region selection
